About the Grade

A BGS 9.5 (Gem Mint) is one of the highest grades Beckett awards, indicating near-perfect centering, sharp corners, clean edges, and a flawless surface. Only a small percentage of submitted cards achieve this grade.

Ali vs. Bugner

The back of this card recounts the February 14, 1973 bout at the Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. Ali faced former sparring partner and European heavyweight champion Joe Bugner in a contest that went the full distance. Bugner displayed a classful combination of power and skill, but Ali delivered a swift combination that opened a severe wound above Bugner's left eye, winning by a clear unanimous decision.

Fun Fact

🥊 Muhammad Ali fought Joe Bugner twice — in 1973 and again in 1975 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, just two months before the legendary Thrilla in Manila against Joe Frazier. Ali won both bouts by unanimous decision, with Bugner being one of the few fighters to go the distance with The Greatest in his prime.
