🧠 Fun Fact

The Franklin Half Dollar was designed by John R. Sinnock and was the first U.S. coin to feature a non-president on the half dollar. Interestingly, U.S. law required a small eagle to appear on the reverse — so a tiny eagle was tucked next to the Liberty Bell to satisfy the requirement. The series ran only 15 years before being replaced by the Kennedy Half Dollar in 1964, following President Kennedy's assassination.
