Ernie Banks joined the Cubs in 1953 with no professional experience and hit .310 in 10 games. By 1955 he had set records for grand slam home runs (5) and most HRs by a shortstop — and played every single game in both '54 and '55. The card back says it best: "If Ernie's not here — there's no game."
⚾ Fun Fact
Ernie Banks is the only player in MLB history to win back-to-back NL MVP awards (1958 & 1959) without ever appearing in a World Series. His eternal optimism gave the world one of baseball's most beloved phrases: "Let's play two!"
